KEPLER CONCERT BY STEFANIE SUN 孙燕姿克卜勒世界巡回演唱会

Last Saturday (5 Jul) DS and I went to the  Singapore National Stadium again for yet another first – the first pop act to perform in this new stadium.

Kepler Concert by homegrown singer Stefanie Sun (aka Sun Yan Zi)

Kepler01

It was a very entertaining concert and the audience were really in high spirit.  There were about 20,000 spectators that night.  So imagine all the screaming and cheering!

Kepler02

We felt that Stefanie has improved tremendously since the last time we attended her first concert in April 2002.  She has improved so much in her showmanship and in engaging the audience, although we think that she could still increase her efforts in putting up better dances.

Stefanie Sun is definitely one local singer that we like and support.  We have a good collection of most of her albums and like many of her songs which we find very uniquely her, clear and engaging.

I found it particularly meaningful that she kicked off her concert with “Cloudy Day”, her breakthrough hit (成名曲 – 天黑黑) 14 years ago when she started her singing career

Two Singapore NDP (National Day Parade) theme songs were sang before the last song – We Will Get There (NDP 2002) and One United People (NDP 2003).  These were specially performed for the Singapore stop only and she described it as a precursor to Singapore’s national day next month (9 August).  But alas, DS didn’t record this special part! 😀

One song (我要的幸福) only for the encore

DS and I had really enjoyed the concert.  We both concluded that it was a good show but it would have been perfect if her voice condition and control was better that night.

We think that the national stadium is not an ideal venue for a pop concert like this.  It is no doubt that it could accommodate a larger capacity of audience but it was too warm and stuffy for comfort, and the acoustics wasn’t as good as that in the indoor stadium.

TAYLOR SWIFT – MY FORTUNE GOD?

The seven-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift is in town for her Red Tour concert.  The first night was on the 9th, and the second, tonight (12 Jun).

DS and I were considering going to the concert but decided to give it a miss due to DS’ tight schedule (thus many late nights) at work, and both the concerts are held on weekdays.

However, little did we expect Taylor Swift to have brought us some luck while she is in town!!

4D

When passing by a Singapore Pools outlet during his lunch break on Monday, DS decided to part with S$10 try his luck with 4-Digits (4D).  He didn’t have any number in mind to buy and after giving some thoughts, he came up with something related to Taylor Swift and her concert that night.

  • 1215 – Taylor’s Swift’s songs : Back to December (12) and Fifteen (15).
  • 1309 – her lucky number (13) and the date of her extra concert in Singapore (9th).

Fifteen

And the winning number was…

4D3

This is DS’ first 4D win in his life! 😀  The feeling of winning was very great, even better than getting his monthly salary!

DS is still feeling really happy and thankful to Taylor Swift for this first winning break ever!  We will surely continue to buy her albums to show our gratitude! 😀 😀

12.12.12

It has been a while since I last posted an entry.  I have been pretty occupied (but I won’t say busy) in the last couple of months catching up with a few things and also trying to complete a “big project” before year-end.  I am very close to completing my “big project” and surely, I will be proud to share about it at a later date.

12.12.12  is the last repeating date for this century and the fact is I will not live till the next repeating date in the 22nd century!  So it deserves a little bit of celebration, doesn’t it? 🙂

I kicked off the day with a phone call to SISTIC to book two tickets for “AMeiZING World Tour Concert – Encore” by Zhang Hui Mei (aka A Mei) on 26 Jan 2013.  DS and I had missed the first AMeiZING concert which was held here in Jan 2012, so surely we don’t want to miss this upcoming one.  It took me half an hour to complete the transaction but I would say it was worth the wait.  Thanks to the very helpful and patient customer service staff at SISTIC, I have got two very good seats!  I think she was the best SISTIC customer service staff I have ever come across.  She made my day! 🙂

DS has specially taken a day off  today although he still has two conference calls to attend to in the morning and evening.

A celebration will never be complete without a feast, agree?  So, we decided on a buffet lunch at Triple Tree @ Mandarin Orchard.   It was a double celebration for the last repeating date of this century, and also my younger sister’s birthday!

Triple Three

And the pleasant surprise today – lovely gifts from my younger sister who has just returned from a holiday in Europe yesterday.

Beautiful wood-carving Christmas tree ornaments from Berlin, wine hand cream, rock salt from Poland and …

Gifts

… a limited edition Hello Kitty pen by Swarovski from Vienna!

Gifts2

Thanks sis, for the lovely gifts, especially the pen!

But I believe the biggest shock and surprise today is the breaking news on the resignation of Michael Palmer, the Member of Parliament for Punngol East SMC (Single Member Constituency), over his extramarital affair!  When we first came to know about this while having our lunch, DS thought it was a hoax!  What a news for this year-end!  Surely this will be an event to be remembered by many on this special date!

DS and I went shopping at Takashimaya after lunch and there was another pleasant surprise for the day – we received a free bottle of Kissing Bridge moscato with a spending of at least S$350 from the men’s department.

So, we are going to close the day with a fine glass of moscato! 🙂

RE-STARTING MY ENGINE….

My first entry for year 2011!   It has taken me about five months to finally start my engine again!

Well, I have not forgotten about this blog, neither have I been short of topics to write since there have been quite a bit of “happenings” during this period of absence, but I was just not very sure if I should take a different approach to the content of this blog moving forward.  There was also this idea about whether or not to start touching on sensitive topics which concern me and many Singaporeans etc.  Well, I don’t have an answer yet but will see.

For now,  for my friends, especially those who are frequent visitors of this blog, here’s an update for the last five months.

Many of you who have been following this blog would know by now that DS and I enjoy going to concerts and musicals, be it pop or classical.  Since last year, for some personal reasons, we have decided to cut down on attending performances by Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO).  DS has given up his Friends of SSO membership.  We had also given Sumi Jo’s concert with SSO on 16 May a miss, although we love her singing very much.  However, there were still good concerts that we did not miss like Russell Watson’s LA VOCE (29 January), Kit Chan’s Music Journey with Singapore Chinese Orchestra (12 February),  JJ Lin’s I AM concert (3 March) and 881 Musical (16 April).  We are so glad that Kit is back singing again and my sister who joined us in this concert and I were moved to tears by her singing that night.  My sister was in the same batch as Kit in Raffles Girls’ School.

JJ Lin’s I AM Concert @ Singapore Indoor Stadium

I hope to share some photos and video clips of JJ Lin’s concert soon.  I know it has been long outstanding as I had promised a friend to do so.

This year, I have two plans on the leisure front – to read more books and to have some new “adventures” in my cooking/baking.  By that, I mean trying out dishes which I have never cooked before even if it is just a simple one, or re-attempting something which I failed to do well in the past (for example, pumpkin kueh or Suan Pan Zi) or have not cooked for a long time.  I think I have been on track so far. 😀

Completed reading 5 books so far – 90 Minutes in Heaven (electronic book on iPad) by Don Piper, Lee Kuan Yew – Hard Truth To Keep Singapore Going, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua, The Unfinished Battle, Islam and the Jews by Mark Gabriel and Have a Little Faith by Mitch Albom.

Some of my new cooking attempts so far…

I also have a few wishes for year 2011.  Two which are yet to come to pass and I am actually not sure if they will ever come true.  Hopefully there will be good news in the not so long future, as I keep praying.  Miracles do happen, don’t they?

One other wish is to get through the final level of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) which I am planning to sit this December.  I am trying my best to achieve this.  A lot more effort is needed at this level, and I am finding it a little difficult to cope despite having a lot more time to work on it as compared to those who are working and studying at the same time.  Perhaps I am just not so gifted in the language.  Nevertheless, it is the learning that I have been enjoying in recent years, and it is unlikely that I will give up at this stage.

Lately, I have been kept very busy with lots of news about GE 2011 and the happenings post GE.  As far as I am concerned, General Election in Singapore has never been this exciting and interesting!  Thanks to all the opposition parties who have come forward to contest to made this GE so different!  I must admit that in the past, I was one of those apathetic on politics since there was hardly any opportunity (or should I say being deprived of the opportunity?) to vote.  This was only my second chance to vote in 19 years!  A friend of mine who is 59 years old was only voting for the first time in his life!  I was so thrilled to find out on Nomination Day that except residents of Tanjong Pagar GRC, the rest of Singaporeans would have a chance to vote!  I value this rare opportunity and knew that I had to vote responsibly.  So I did my “homework” and even discussed my thoughts with DS.  😀   We  attended a rally by Workers Party at the Bedok Stadium and were very heartened to see the huge turn-up that packed the stadium even up to the entrance area.  Rallies by opposition parties seemed extremely popular this time.  We wanted to hear what the opposition had to say and offer in order to make an objective decision when we went to the polls.  In fact, we did the same many years ago as first-time voters.  It is certainly interesting to see how the political situation in Singapore has changed over the years, and I can only imagine future GE to get even more exciting and interesting! I am already looking forward to my next vote!

KIT CHAN AND SINGAPORE CHINESE ORCHESTRA!

Kit Chan – My Musical Journey

陈洁仪 - 我的音乐之旅

12 February, 2011 : Esplanade Concert Hall

(Photo : from SISTIC website)

At last, Kit is going to have a concert in Singapore!!!  😀 This is one concert that both DS and I have been waiting for after watching Emi Fujita performed at the Esplanade Concert Hall a few years ago.  We have watched Kit performed in the Forbidden City musical and more recently, in December Rain Chinese musical but solo concert wise, once only at the Singapore Indoor Stadium (I think that was in 2001). Memories of that concert are still fresh in our minds.  What made us even more excited about this upcoming concert is that Kit will be performing with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra led by Maestro Tsung Yeh, and it will be at the Esplanade Concert Hall.  What more can we ask for!

Watching a pop concert with an orchestra is also something that DS and I have been looking forward to.  We have discs of Jackie Cheung’s(张学友) Love & Symphony(爱与交响曲) and Zhang Hui Mei’s(张惠妹) Time To Say Goodbye : A Mei Hong Kong Live(歌声妹影).  Both performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.  We always wondered why there aren’t such concert in Singapore.

Thanks to Kit Chan and Singapore Chinese Orchestra!  We are certainly counting down to 12 February 2011!

I only got news of the concert yesterday morning through the email from Esplanade. With much excitement, I rang SISTIC almost immediately to book my tickets.  Many seats had already been snatched up by then and I only managed to get Category Two tickets on the back row of Stall seats.  That was a slight disappointment but it is glad to know that Kit still commands a high level of popularity after all these years!  She is indeed Singapore’s most enduring songbird!
